Believe it or not, my intention is not to make fun of cosplayers. These photo galleries are just my way of saying: "Hey everybody, cosplay exists, take a look at some pictures of cosplayers!"

Well OK, maybe that's not it entirely. Maybe it's more like "Hey everybody, cosplay exists and some of the people who participate in it dress in costumes most other people would find pretty hilarious so let's all look at photos of people dressed like comic book characters and laugh at them but not in a hateful way!"

I think that about sums up my feelings. Let's go!

20 Shameless Cosplayers to Frighten & Amuse You

Cosplay can be defined loosely as the ancient Japanese art of dressing up as shitty characters from animated shows enjoyed predominately by 12 year old Japaneses children and various adults with far too little (or far too much) self-respect. When cosplay goes well, it is easy to ignore. But when it goes wrong, it goes very wrong, much to the horrified delight of anyone who happens to view it. In this respect, the cosplayer is much like a prolapsed rectum. I won't explain precisely why, but let's just say it's hard to resist looking up photos of either on the internet and leave it at that.

Here are twenty in their natural habitat (cosplayers, that is, not rectums. I'm saving those pictures for next year's Easter post).

Just to be completely clear: This is not a "hey let's all laugh at fat people" article. It's more of a "Hey let's laugh at dumb costumes which are allegedly designed for fat people" article. There are two reasons for this: 1. It isn't very nice to make fun of fat people, and 2. The models these costume companies get to pose for their "Plus-Size" costumes aren't usually very fat anyway.

Either way they're still pretty bad. Have a look.

I for one am glad that Christmas has become an overt celebration of ravenous Walmart-greeter-trampling consumerism and mindless gluttony. For one, those things are a hell of a lot more fun than trying not to fall asleep while somebody reads from the non-exciting parts of the bible, and for another it makes Christmas a lot easier for me to write about. I mean, what would I even DO if Christmas was still a religious holiday? Make fun of Jesus? Not a chance. People already hate this site enough. The last thing I need is a bunch of humorless Christians gleefully dousing me with kerosene and stringing me from the rafters of some boathouse. No thank you.

Hey! Newsflash: Being ignored by emotionally distant parents and raised by a television set doesn't grant you the right to traumatize the rest of us by making us look at something dumb. Either get over it or learn to start abusing prescription medications like everyone else. But until that day, could you please knock it off with the "Dressing up semiironically as one of the shitty cartoon characters I vaguely remember from my loveless childhood" crap already?

And for chrissake, if you DO insist on it, at least make the costume yourself. Otherwise you might end up looking like one of these people.
